Basket Bingo

Bob wanted me to pass along some important information about a great fundraiser happening next Saturday. Please pass this info on and go and support the Norwell teams. Here's the info from Bob:

We have a firm date for the Basket Bingo. It will be May 8th and run from 9:00-11:00 a.m. I would like to stress that we could really use your help with fundraising this spring. We may incur some expenses in the near future and with the drops in attendance and the rise in fuel costs, as well as an overall increase in expenses everywhere, the athletic budget is stretched to the limit. Since track and cross country are not revenue generating sports, it looks good when we can "pull our weight" when it comes to expenses. The charge for the Bingo will be $20 and we will have 20 games. You will be able to purchase extra pads and purchase raffle tickets for a special raffle basket. We will have a few concessions for sale as well. So grab your mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, etc and come play Bingo with us on the morning of May 8th. The largest crowd we have ever had is about 85 and we would like to double that if at all possible.

Thanks for your support.

10 mile goal run

We talked a little bit about the 5 mile/10 mile race at the State Park on April 10th at the last meeting. We have rented out the lodge back by the old entrance so the start line will be moved this year. Also, we have decided to do a pancake/sausage meal after the race instead of pizza. We will need a few volunteers to help with the meal prep. Does anyone have a griddle they would be willing to let us borrow? We will talk more when the race gets closer.

We will also be sending out an email to the people in the area who have entered in one of our races. If you know of somebody you would like to invite to the club please let me know and I will send you the email that you can forward on to them. The more the merrier.

Happy Running!

Training Program

There was a comment left on our last post, I reposted it here for everybody to see. Thanks, it made it easy for me since I didn't have all of the information. Hope to see a lot of people there, I hope to make it as often as possible. I need plenty of motivation!

There's a Spring Into Training Program starting on Tuesday, February 9th at 5:30 p.m. on the 4th floor of Bluffton Regional Medical Center designed to address the very topic you posed in your post - training in the winter, getting motivated, cross training, increasing distance and pace safely, preparing for the Indy Mini and other races. The $20 program includes free access to the YMCA one day each week, discount at 3 Rivers Running Company, presentation by a Registered Dietitian, discussion with a physical therapist about training aches and pains, weekly motivational emails, various pace groups, and printed training schedule. For more info, email lisa.beck@blufftonregional.com or talk with Mac. Registration is required for the 12-week program. The program is co-sponosred by ORR, Bluffton Regional Medical Center, and the Wells County YMCA.

Running Outside?

So, with this new snow accumulation and another round of very frigid temperatures, is anyone still running outside? If you are, good for you as long as you're being smart and careful. If you're not, oh well, there's always time to relax, cross train, use a treadmill, etc. It seems weird to start training for the Indy Mini again, time goes way too fast! I'm sure at the meeting on Monday we will be talking about setting a date for the 5/10 mile training run. See you then.
