Change in Meeting Place

For the next ORR meeting there has been a change. Delores Johns has offered her house for our next meeting, kind of a Christmas Party/meeting. Provide your own beverage (is what I heard). Her address is 2772 E 350 N.

W.O.O.F. Results

Results from yesterdays great race can be found at fwtc.org (not yet) and runindiana.com, 15 mile race click here and 5 mile race click here. Thanks everybody for helping and participating in a very enjoyable race. I still can't believe how nice the weather was, it couldn't have been any nicer. After last year's cold, miserable, wet, muddy, chilled to the bone day, it was a welcome break.

Saturday Race

Well, the Parlor City Trot is fast approaching! It looks like the weather might be FANTASTIC!! I don't know if they want me to put this on the blog, but ORR members can enter the race for FREE, yippee!! Now, if only I can race. I have volunteered to help enter the names in the computer during registration, but if somebody knows anybody who likes to get up early, volunteer their time, and loves typing, then I have just the job for them (let me know)! A big thank you to Mac and the crew for ALL they do to put this race together. Mac either LOVES it or he is just crazy to do what he does, and he doesn't even get to run it and enjoy it, thank you Mac!! If you have any comments/questions, just let me know and I'll try and get an answer for you. Have a great week and see you Saturday!

Fort 4 Fitness note: The race has filled up, but you are able to do transfers until Sept 12th.

New Info

I just happened to see this in the news-banner online edition.

New date for Parlor City Trot

The Ouabache River Runners have announced several changes for the upcoming 35th Parlor City Trot. The most significant involves moving the date of the race to Sept. 5. In addition, a 10-mile race will be added to the schedule, which includes a half-marathon and a 10 kilometer event.

The date was changed because of a conflict with the Fort 4 Fitness Festival on Sept. 26 in Fort Wayne.

Trot race entry forms are available at the Oupatient Rehabilitation Clinic in Bluffton Regional Medical Center’s South Campus, Hot Cakes and FPC.

Any Updates

I guess being gone so many weekends recently, I missed the last meeting and didn't even update the blog. Did I miss anything important? What's the latest news on the Trot? Is registration open and are we having another meeting before then?

Update

I have been out of the loop for awhile here so not much to update you on. It looks, from the results, like the Firecracker 4 Mile run had a good turnout and a lot of great finishing times. Great job to those of you who participated.

I assume the training program is going well. We can hear updates from Mac at the next meeting.

Any other thoughts or comments?

Training Program

The Parlor City Trot training program for runners and walkers will begin on Tuesday, June 16th. Registration deadline is June 9th, total cost is only $40 plus you receive $10 off your entry in the PCT race on September 5th. This year the race will offer a 10k, 10 mile, and half marathon. This 12 week training program will include weekly runs/walks and several educational presentations. It will be worth every penny and a great opportunity. Please pass this info along. Contact Mac with any questions, macmcavoy@gmail.com.

Group runs continue

Even though many, if any, are not showing up on Saturday mornings for the group run, I would like to keep it set up the same time and place so everyone knows. It would be nice if more of us could make it, I think it would grow if people knew that somebody would actually be there. Is there another day or time that would work better for most people. When do you normally get your weekly runs in? Just because you meet as a pack doesn't mean you have to run as a pack.

Good luck to those who are running the Indy Mini this weekend, and all other races too!

Indy Mini Meal

Teri had a great idea (although I can't participate). She was wondering if anyone in the club would be interested in eating together Friday and/or Saturday night in Indy for the Mini. Please comment soon if interested so she can make reservations, which need to be made this week. Who all is running Indy this year?

Spring Training Run Results

The race on Saturday went very well with a total of around 106 runners, 18 in the five mile, the rest in the 10 mile. The weather was perfect and made up for the nasty weather we had for the WOOF. We were able to use the timing chips for the first time and I think it worked fairly well. I hope they worked out all of the kinks. The results are posted on runindiana.com (click link to take you there). The only complaint I have about the day is I forgot to take my camera. Did anyone get any pictures of the day? I guess the next race we have planned is the Firecraker 4 mile in Fort Wayne on July 4th (did I get all that info right). We have decided against trying the Bluffton to Berne to Bluffton relay this year, unless somebody could take it over to plan it. Hopefully next year we will be able to work something out. After that, it's the Parlor City Trot, and the WOOF to round out the year. I have enjoyed the Ouabache River Runners and think everybody else has too. Good luck with the rest of your training, whether it be for the Mini or another race. Keep on pressing on!

April 18th Race

Remember the race is coming up, Saturday April 18th, 9:00 a.m. at the State Park. Mac is needing several volunteers for race registration and water stations. Please contact him or comment here if you can help. Hope to see all of you there.

Timing Chips this Saturday

Dave is wanting to use the timing chips this Saturday for the group run. The more people the better, so please try to come and bring others with you. We meet at the White Bridge at 8:00 a.m. Dave would like to know about how many plan on coming so if you could either comment on this post or email Dave directly. Thanks. Hope to see more of you soon.

Saturday anyone?

Okay, so it's already Friday night and tomorrow is the group run again at 8:00 a.m., so this post might be a little late. If anyone happens to read this yet before tomorrow, please join us for the run. I assume the White Bridge parking lot is open, but if the water happens to still be up, meet in the first parking lot in the State Park. I wasn't at the meeting on Monday night and I haven't heard back from Mac to see if he will be there with the timing chips. Anybody know? We did have 5 people show up last Saturday, maybe we can double that this Saturday. We all ran our own paces basically and it worked well. Hope to see you all bright and early!!

Ready to Run

Well, the weather hasn't exactly been cooperating lately. The water is down and hopefully the snow is done. Saturday, meet at the White Bridge, 8:00 a.m. Starting in March, Mac is going to try and meet us there on Saturday mornings, so we can all try out the new racing chips. Should be fun. Remember the next meeting is planned on March 9th, and then there will be one more before the race on April 18th. We are in need of volunteers for registration, food table, aid station, and finish line, etc. If you have friends or family interested please contact myself or Mac. You can leave a comment too. Happy running, hope your training is going well.

High Water

Well, with the River Greenway being flooded, we need to move the meeting spot for the group run this Saturday morning. We will go ahead and meet at Kunkle Lake at 8:00 a.m. That is the first parking lot inside the State Park. If someone finds out exactly when the State Park starts charging, please comment.

Chris Brown

Well tomorrow is the Run It, Walk It for Chris Brown at IPFW. It looks like the weather will be great for it. There are no watches allowed since it is a prediction run making it a fun, enjoyable race for everyone. Leave a comment if you plan on going or did go to let us know how it went.

Speaking of comments, it would be really appreciated if people left comments so we knew if anybody was paying attention to the blog. Everyone is welcome to comment and leave feedback on the blog, or ideas for other posts, etc.

Remember, the Club is meeting on Saturday mornings, the White Bridge at 8:00 am for group runs. If that works into your schedule, great! I know the Club isn't very big and most people are at different paces, but meeting as a group is still neat. A few minutes of chit chat to help us get to know each other and then everyone can take off at their own pace. A few of us met this morning to run and are looking forward to seeing more people out as the weather gets nicer.

Also, a reminder that the Club meeting is this coming Monday at 7:00 pm at FPC. The chip timers have come in and there is more to discuss about the training run on April 18th. See you then.

Training

This week starts your 16 week training program for the Indy Mini, if you're running. Some go with a 12-14 week program too, but why prolong the inevitable? The weather is making it a little tricky to get your running time outdoors so thank goodness for treadmills, I think. I happen to have a TV in front of mine, well, only until the digital switch. I haven't purchased a converter box yet. Anyway, if anybody has any great tips for indoor training or surviving the outdoors, please share.

Saturday Runs

Hope you all enjoyed a very blessed Christmas and a wonderful New Year. Leave a comment and let everybody know what your race agenda is for 2009. (i.e. I hope to run the April 18th 10 mile goal run unless I'm helping Mac, the Indy Mini, the B2B relay, Parlor City Trot, Fort 4 Fitness, and the WOOF, that's a huge agenda for me) What are your plans?

Also, if you read the comment in the last post, Joe from Fort Wayne I assume, wants to know if anyone is running Saturday mornings, 8-9 min pace, on the trails. He is wanting to run with some from the area. Leave a comment on that post in case he comes back to check so we know who would be interested. Thanks.

I assume many of you are getting ready for the Indy mini and ready to start training soon. Best of luck and hopefully the Club can get some more group runs planned. See you at the next meeting.
