Meeting

Just a reminder that there is another running club meeting on Monday night at FPC at 7:00 p.m. Hope to see you all there.

There has also been a group of us meeting to run on Sunday afternoons at Kunkle Lake at 2:45 p.m. There have been between 3-8 of us show up. It's been great and we welcome anyone else. It doesn't matter your speed or distance, it just makes it nice to show up and see somebody else out doing the same thing you are. Tomorrow might be a little chilly, but fun none the less. Bundle up and try it.

Black Friday deal

Hey all runners, in case you are interested I just saw that amazon.com is having a sale on Black Friday for the Garmin 305. I think the 405 is the newest and latest, but the 305 is still a great watch, so I'm told. The retail is around $250 and they are selling it for $150 on Friday. Just thought I would pass the deal on if anyone would be interested. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Update

I found out that the deer hunt in the park was on Monday and Tuesday and will be happening again on December 1st and 2nd so it looks like the weekends are safe. Hopefully some will be able to meet at the white bridge in the morning at 8:00 am, there are also a few meeting at Kunkle Lake at 9:00 am if that works better. There is a group meeting at Kunkle Lake on Sunday at 2:45 pm. All are welcome.

State Park deer hunt

I heard that the State Park is having their deer hunt this weekend. Just a little notice so you don't try to run in there. I assume they have signs up. Let me know if this is not correct. Remember, the group meets at the White Bridge Saturday mornings at 8:00am. I know of a few people that are probably showing up so the more the better.

I put together a short scrapbook from the race today. When it first starts playing click pause right under the book so all of the pictures have a chance to load. You can also click pause on every page so you have time to look at the pictures. Enjoy!

W.O.O.F

Hey, what a great race. I don't think there were any complaints (weather does not count)! Race results are posted at runindiana.com for the 15 mile and the relay and on fwtc.org for the 15 mile. Great job to everyone that endured the weather and helped or ran. Thanks to Mac, Dave, Scott, and Bob for all the behind the scenes work plus sacrificing today to plan such a fun race. The Barth's also deserve a huge, huge thank-you for planning and organizing all of the food. It was all delicious. I believe Dave and Scott also had family help with the burgers and stew. I will post pictures soon. If you missed it, make plans to join us next year.

If you aren't using the ning website, I wanted to update you. Barth's are looking for large roasters and coffee makers for use after the WOOF race. Contact them at 565-3859.

Monday Night Meeting

Please everyone, come to the meeting planned at FPC at 7:00 pm on Monday night, November 10th. Plans will be discussed for the upcoming WOOF race. Early entry deadline is this Saturday so you better get it sent into Mac by then to avoid the ridiculous price jump after that. We want to get many, many more people signed up for this neat race, so keep spreading the word. Be thinking of others that may have interest in helping with the race too. See you all there.

Minutes Posted

Minutes from the meeting on Monday 10/13 are posted at http://teamorr.ning.com/ .

Saturday Group Runs

It was also discussed at the meeting a time set in stone to meet every week, in hopes of having new people able to join us. Keep spreading the word. We will meet as a group every Saturday morning at 8:00 am at the White Bridge. This Saturday we have a picture opportunity maybe while running and then hopefully some of you can help trim up the park trails. Hand trimmers and pruners needed, also bring a pair of gloves. Hope to see you then.

Monday's Meeting

About 20 people attended the meeting. Much was discussed and I have an email to Angie to get a copy of the minutes and will try to get it on the website asap.

We talked a lot about the WOOF and the need for a workday to clear more of the trails. That workday will be this Saturday after those who meet for the morning group run are finished running. If you can help but aren't planning to run on Saturday contact Scott Steffen or MacAvoy. I do not want to commit because I'm pretty sure the GCC team will be in the Regional at IWU in Marion.

On the subject of the WOOF, we will need help on race day. Lot's of help. If you are an ORR member that is planning to run, maybe you could wrangle a spouse (or parent) into helping us with the details on the morning of the race.

Club Meeting

There is a club meeting on Monday Evening at 7:00 PM at FPC (in front of Richards Restaurant). It is important that members of the club attend as we will be discussing the WOOF. The meeting is open to anyone that is interested in running in Wells County. Contact Bob if you need more information.

I agree. How about another Thursday? It might be nice to meet before the HMC 5K for Forgotten Children International.

What's Next?

So runners, what's next? Any more meetings scheduled? Any group runs happening? Leave a comment if you have something you want to add to the blog. I highly recommend the Fort 4 Fitness race next year for everyone. I thought it was very well organized (a few issues with the packet pick-up and health fair) and it was a very nice course.

Fort 4 Fitness

Who all is running the 4 mile or the half marathon this Saturday in Fort Wayne? Would anybody be willing to pick up my packet on Friday night? What about carpooling on Saturday, any interest there? I might have a great parking option. Leave comments if you're interested.

Road Closed

Due to road construction, SR 201 is closed off in front of the park. If you are coming from town that means that you need to go out of town on 124 and take 500 E south to 100 S to get to the park entrance.

Parlot City Trot Results

Results have been posted on runindiana.com. They have not been put on fwtc.org yet.

Good Luck at Parlor City

I just want to wish everyone that is running the Trot (not to be confused with having the trots) on Saturday a big GOOD LUCK. Remember to be nice to the Race Director. He will be having one of those days.

Update on Trail Conditions

Anybody have an update on the trail conditions since the rain on Sunday?

Saturday, September 13, 2008

Trail Conditions

In case you were wondering, the trails in the park are still good. There were no puddles, only wet leaves so watch your step. Enjoy!!

Street Fair Week

There will be no meeting on Thursday night during Street Fair. There is a group running on Tuesday night at 6:00 pm, meeting at Kunkle Lake. That's the way to burn a few extra calories before you go eat at the Fair. Good luck to those of you running in Catch Your Breath Sunday.

Saturday Morning Run at Kunkle Lake

Ouabache Running Group
This Saturday a group is meeting at 7:00 am at Kunkle Lake. Park at the first parking lot inside the state park. Running will be at about 10:30-11:00 pace with some walking. This will be on a 4.5 mile loop on trails. This will depend on the weather (drizzle is okay, down pour is not).
There will be a second group running at 7:30 am at the same place. Pace is 10 min/mile, 5.5 miles on trails followed by 6.5 on roads. Again, feel free to join for some or all.

Prediction Run 9/11

Here's a reminder that on Thursday September 11 we will have a 2 mile prediction run on the Rivergreenway Trail. It is open to everyone so invite a friend and join in the fun.

Last night (Thur. 9/4) we only had 6 hardy souls show up but we knew last week that it would be a limited group. I had forgotten how much fun it was to run in the rain.

Don't forget about the Saturday Morning run at the state park.

Saturday Runs

Meeting on a regular basis is a group running 4.5 miles of trails in the park. They plan on meeting again at Kunkle Lake at 7:00 am and running around a 10:30 min/mile pace with a 10 min run/1 min walk. They will not be meeting the weekend of the Street Fair obviously.

This Saturday a few are planning on running 12 miles, first half on trails, second half on roads. They will be meeting at Kunkle Lake at 7:30 am. The pace will be around 10 min/mile. Come for some or all.

Fort 4 Fitness

If you plan on running the 1/2 marathon or 4 mile race in Fort Wayne on Sept 27th, you need to register now if you haven't yet. There are about 25 spots left for the 1/2 marathon and 125 spots for the 4 mile race. Go to www.fort4fitness.org to sign up.

Another Poll

Again, another poll for you to voice your choice. Above are the 2 logo designs that have been designed for the running club. Go ahead and vote over to the right if you prefer logo 1 or logo 2. Thanks again.

Saturday, August 30, 2008

Vote in Poll

Over to the right you will see a poll that we want all of you to vote in. Two reasons, first we get to see how many people are using this site, and second, just curious what meeting times work best for most of you. So please vote. Thank you.

The prize

Yes. A prize to the person (or persons) closest to their prediction. Maybe we can induce a few more intrepid souls to join us on that Thursday. I enjoyed meeting with everyone again. I even ran this time! OK, maybe it wasn't running in the classic sense of the word, but I was happy with it!!

Thursday Run

Here's a picture of those that showed up to run on the Greenway tonight. It's great having others to run with. Keep inviting other runners/walkers! Mac informed us tonight that our meeting on Sept 11th we will be having a 2 mile prediction run. No watches allowed! We will be predicting our finishing time and seeing how close our 2 mile run is to that. Bob insured us that there would be a special prize (right Bob?). Hope to see you all (and more) next Thursday.

Saturday Morning

Runners are reminded that the Saturday morning run at the state park is on trails. The group will meet at 9:00 AM. Pace is approximately 10:30 - 11:30 per mile. Bring a friend.

Thursday Reminder

A big THANK YOU to Jamie for starting this blog. It will be just one more tool for us to stay in touch. This is a reminder that we will meet on Thursday 8/28, 9/4 and 9/11 for group runs.

Saturday runs

We have a few different groups planning to run this Saturday, Aug 30th. The first one is meeting at Kunkel Lake (1st parking lot inside the State Park) at 7:50 am. They plan on running around 5 miles at 9:30-10:00 min/mile. The second group is meeting at Kunkel Lake at 9:00 am. They will be running around 5 miles also, at 10:30-11:00 min/mile (usually 10 minutes of running to 1 minute of walking). Feel free to join either group. If you plan on running and want to invite others, leave a comment telling when, where, and pace, then I can get it posted.

First Post

Welcome River Runners! I thought we would try having a blog to keep people informed of what is going on in the running community. I'm not sure we will all be able to post something, but please leave comments and then I can add posts for everybody to see. Currently Bob has running information on his Girls Cross Country website, click here. Until we get around to getting our own website, maybe this will help keep everyone involved. Last Thursday we had a great first night of running. We will be continuing that on for the next 3 Thursday, 7:00 pm at the White Bridge. Our goal is to meet others and see who might be running around the same pace. We hope that people will start running together and using this blog as a means to get more people meeting to run. If you keep leaving comments I can update the posts to let people know when and where people are meeting. Let me know how this works for you and we can always make changes. Hope to see you all on Thursday night.
